Beware of your best friend

05 October 2015, 12:07 Martin Beck Nworah

As an individual, I don't believe in the existence of a "best friend". My life is an experience to back up why I don't hold on strongly to anybody becoming my best friend either now or in the future. Although I have my personal reservations as Martin Beck Nworah, many have stated that their success or survival in life came from someone who is their best friend. I can vividly remember one man who became a millionaire simply because his best friend decided to include his name in a fake government contract that was over inflated. They are both mega millionaires, building hotels here and there while solidifying their friendship along the line. Whether good or bad, "na you sabi".

But on the other hand, many marriages have broken today because of the presence of a "best friend." Many people have lost their dream job because they told their best friend about the job and the individual got jealous, "so you that have been feeding off me will now be earning more than me? Not possible". We see these attitude of so-called best friends in divergent spheres of our life.

When these best friends are disgruntled about your success, they can go to any length to pull you down. They come into town and decide to stay a few days in your house while they search for a job. As a good christian woman, you welcome your university best friend and before you know it, she is already seducing and sleeping with your husband. Perhaps you will blame your husband and say he is weak, what about you who brought in a stranger into your home? If you want to help a friend, please go and ahead do so but as Martin Beck Nworah, I'd rather find an alternative for you than allow the best friend or any friend at all to come into our matrimonial home and spend weeks that will run into months.

The best friend you knew when both of you were in school may change later in life. The person may change to become a helper that will salvage your life and give you hope or on the other hand, the individual may become a clog in the wheel of your success without your knowing. In all you do, pray and apply wisdom.

It is good to make friends and have a sense of belonging. It is soothing to the heart when you know someone out there got your back when things become tough. We all pray to have that special someone who will comprehend us and always extend a hand to be with us when we need him or her. God is always there for us no doubt. Try and know your friends before you decide who becomes your best friend because that "best friend" may become a "best mistake" later in life.

Till we get to the Promised Land, I shall be waiting for when you will pass me a glass of water and thank God for the gift of grace for the race.
