Commendation to five Governors

A pro democracy group, the League of Voters in Nigeria has commended five newly sworn in State governors for embarking on people oriented programmes.

Speaking to news men in Abuja on the one month appraisal of the state governors, the group National Coordinator Dr. Benedict Bem Kokoiwen singled out the governors of Benue, Kaduna, Rivers, Kano and Sokoto for commendation stating that the governors have proved themselves worthy of the mandates whice were given to them by their people on April 11th.

He noted that the governors of the five states have worked assiduously within this short time to clear the backlogs of workers salaries, initiated dialogue with labour union leaders to return striking workers to work, cut down the cost of running government in their states, set a stage for the resuscitation of collapsed institutions and embarked on programmes that will improve on the welbeing of their people.

The national coordinator lamented the huge debt profile and other administrative burdens that some former governors left behing in some states and called for proactive measures by the new governors so that they can deliver on their campaign promises to the people and engender development.
