Dress up with a power blazer

31 May 2013, 11:47

I wanted a superhero costume as a kid to look good and feel super strong, wearing a Superman or Batman costume always gave me that feeling. But in the real world, such costumes look much better at a kid's birthday party.

Power blazers! Well let me say, before you get carried away and start making plans to use them in saving the world, they are not that kind of "costumes".

There are some fashion outfits or accessories that inspire the wearer or provoke observers. Some dress up and feel oh-so-comfortable, comfortable enough to communicate with everyone, because they appear to have the 3Cs (Cool, Calm and Collected).

Power Blazers are one of these outfits that fit into this category. They can be worn with a wide variety of other clothes, ranging from a shirt and tie to open-necked polo tees; with trousers of all colours, from the classic white cotton to grey flannel, to brown or beige chinos as well as jeans.

Blazers are not new in the fashion scene as they have long been in existence since 1825. In early times,  blazers were worn by the navy in jackets of blue and white stripes.

As years went by, it became a fashion outfit, coming in various shades and hues. And now reintroduced in bright colours, and crest embossing, it has become an attire that depicts gentlemanly charisma.

Some designers like Mai Atafo (Inspired) and David Wej (D.W), who have popularised these embossed blazers through their designs have made them a must have for men of class and prestige as well as some ladies.

The blazer has become an attire that cannot be identified with a particular gender, since it is a piece that first originated from fitted menswear.

The blazer also has the ability to add an androgynous modern flair to any ensemble. They are now worn by business personalities, executives, managers, as an appropriate business outfit.

So when next you are invited for an event, business meeting or any social gathering, don't forget to step out in your power blazer.

Who knows, that job, headlines, business contract, might just be yours.
