Expression and wish out of ignorance

27 August 2014, 11:43 Onyeji Dominic

There are certain things people say without knowing and thinking. The things are simple to understand but the understanding is missing in general due to massive ignorance, pretense and social negligence. I mean majority of people in life especially the black are known for making utterances out of downright ignorance.

Take for instance; I have two friends in my neighborhood - Biodun and Abubakar. Both are Nigerians with bad tempers. I mean the two are given to wroth just like members of Boko Haram who are there in the country throwing bombs to kill people for nothing. It made me wonder each time I heard both expressing annoyance like empty-headed fools in limbo of downhill.

There was a particular day when Biodun stepped on the toes of Abubakar. "God punish you!" he hollered at Biodun out of anger. "Devil baptize you, idiot!" Biodun "fire" back at him in rage. It was quite amusing, and I could not stop laughing.

The fun made sense to me and I saw need to approach Abubakar. "You asked God to punish Biodun," I said to him frankly. "If I may ask! What is God? I mean you did not ask Devil to punish him. Why must it be God's duty to punish people? Does it mean that God is more wicked than the Devil?"

I have to ask because people are known for making such utterances in public. I mean it was not my first time to hear someone saying, "God punish you!" It is very common but the fools do not actually know that the saying is just a mere expression, nothing serious at all. They take it as if God is one "good" fellow that is meant to destroy or suffer human beings for nothing just like Boko Haram in Nigeria. That is the mentality of the people concerning God. He is taken as a rewarded of both evil and good under the Sun. That is why it is equally common to hear the people saying, "God bless you!" - Another mere expression!

If I may ask! What is expression? What is utterance? What is saying? What is wish? If we ask me, I will say it wisely that things like feelings, opinions and ideas exist in human mind alone. They are not real because we can never see or touch them just like God, Devil and angels which are equally things of mind. It means that there is nothing like God or Devil to bless or punish anybody under the Sun. They exist in mind, and the term "mind" is home of imagination and dream.
