I make this submission and plea to the federal government and to the academic staffs union of university lecturers.
This is eating deep into the minds and hearts of this promising young youths of this great country Nigeria.
For more than 100 days now, this people have been mourning the nonchalant response of this two parties FG and ASUU. I quoted and agreed with the idea one of this News24 user made!
He said, if the president could stop and make it compulsory that all the government officials and the lecturers, that their children should all attend federal universities. My own suggestion is that, because I believe that the FG do not trust the university lecturers, in them carrying out the things they mentioned that they want to accomplish with all the money they are requesting fore.
You know why? I give my reasons, the president was once a university lecture and during his time in the lecture halls, he fought for this same reasons but then, I could say he knows what was and is going on in the ASUU's cupboard. Who once fought with them, now has a golden opportunity of seeing to their all demands been granted, yet see no much reason why all this demands should not be met at ago. Can someone ask why! Because i am as well out of word to say concerning that.
Did the president know something we don't know concerning ASUU? Ask Adams Oshomole when he was a labor leader and now that he is a governor, maybe he could have answers to that?
Many more questions to ask! The ones they have gotten before, which infrastructure did they use it to acquire, is it new ones or old ones that they have and still don't allow students to make proper use of it? You can imagine an information technology student seeing well equipped computers that he or she is only allowed to visit twice in a month!
Recently there is one university in this country that got 400 million naira as their own generated income in the school, ask me what they did with it? They shared the money among themselves according to who knows who, ok. Why didn't they use it for the part of the infrastructure they don't have.
And these same people equally joined other universities in shouting for the same strike. FG have their own issues too in their various offices. Well, no one is perfect, that's why we should all go deeper and reason beyond striking or not striking.
Let the federal government from hence forth have a budget and open account where all universities will be well checked on how they spend their revenue incomes and all the money given to them by the federal government, so that there can be at least accountability.
You ask me again how do you generate 400 million naira and you share it among yourselves, is it a company or what? From Benue University the ASUU chairman explains and plead with the governor to allow them in the strike with other universities in the country, this was when the governor threatened them that he could stop their salaries!
He explained that from the 950 million naira given to them by Fg that they have shared it among the striking universities in the country. And he said, had it been we are not participating in the strike, that the money wouldn't have reached them! Ask me, how much could they have gotten now out of it? With more than 60 universities in the country!
Can it reach up to 400 million that only one school generated and shared among them selves? know it won't, who is fooling who now? So many mysteries with ASUU.
Also a mechanical engineering student who goes to Lab to conduct practicals and the lecture involve in the lab telling them not to touch any machine, rather let him give them readings (i.e values), you can imagine what they are doing to the same universities they complained to have decayed, hmmm. ASUU and FG should let go of their egos and see to the end of this strike before it enters 150 days. God help us.
