Global youth forum commended ECOWAS response on Ebola

03 December 2014, 19:29

The Global Association of West African Youths (gloWAY) is the apex umbrella body of West African youths the world over. gloWAY is particularly concerned with the fight against ebola in West Africa because it has negatively affected the sociopolitical activities in the affected countries, it has also limit the level of travels across West Africa and equally hinders economic activities in the region. But this days no doubt will become history in the annals of this great region as you are all aware that the join initiative of AU/ECOWAS to train and deploy 150 health workers to Sierra Leone, Guinea and Liberia is a step at the right direction and applauded by all and sundry. The program which mobilized 150 health workers in a coordinated effort to help defeat this unfriendly monster.

While we commended the effort of AU/ECOWAS, we also wish to remind them that the future of this three West African countries is a challenge before them, they should not only play a role in the fight against ebola but to also design a comprehensive eeconomic policy that will help the countries immediately after recovery from the sociopolitical travails the outbreak must have caused. As stakeholders, it is imperative therefore to say that we must continue to propagate team spirit and solidarity in handling any phenomena. As a regional association we strongly belief this is a fertile ground upon which we must always remember that ours is more of a social service beneficial to the people of West Africa, Consequently, we have equally set up a committee charged with the responsibility of mobilizing medical volunteers that will assist in the fight against ebola in the affected countries.
