God's own state?

30 April 2015, 14:08

The two major political parties in Abia state, PDP and APGA are now in what i term "a do or die affair". Before the elections,it was very hot down here! The supporters of each party fought each other like cats and dogs and warred against each other. Staunch supporters of Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu (PDP) and Dr. Alex Otti (APGA), clashed wherever and whenever they met. In my base,on several occassions, there have been fights and fights. There are also accusations of the twin parties stealing ballot boxes from different polling stations.

The results announced Dr. Alex Otti (APGA) as the winner but the INEC body also discovered that some LGA's in the state were either rampaged by touts or found their ballot boxes wanting. While in some areas, people were held at gunpoint to vote for a party, some were paid, and some also borrowed PVC 's from friends to vote for a favourite party. Some local governments are to go through the voting excersice on the 25th of this month which is a saturday after which the final results will be annouced for the last time. We pray for peace and that Abia will go back to being God's own state.
