Lastma queries corrupt official

24 July 2012, 17:44

A LASTMA official (name witheld) attached to the Victoria Island Unit was on Monday queried by the Unit Command for allegedly trying to extort and harrass a car owner.

Sources close to the head of the Unit disclosed that Mr. Gbolahan the Unit Commander issued the query followed by the report of one Mr. Ola Owoeye who presented series of photographic evidence of the harrasment to the agency.

Mr.Owoeye had alleged that the LASTMA official once demanded the identity of those in his car before trying to charge him for illegal parking by the BRT bus stop at Eko Hotel round about. This charge prompted Owoeye to take a shot of the environment and the traffic situation around the area which forced him to leave the scene. Unfortunately he was unable to capture his face.

Three weeks later the official resurface trying to gain entry into the car forcefully which made Mr. Owoeye speed off, but later reported the incidence to the Unit Command.

Early this year no less than 50 LASTMA officials have been dismissed by the Lagos State government for offences ranging from a lack of discpline to corruption.
