Man is tripartite

11 June 2013, 09:38 Onyeji Dominic Uzoechi

Most people in life have not accepted this truth that man is tripartite. We hear the wise expound on it everywhere. Messages and books from erudite preachers, renowned authors, physicians and psychologists have done great justice to it. They preach it everyday like sermon through various media and still, many like doubting Thomas remain adamant, hardly accepting the fact that man’s existence is both mental and physical.

Jesus was first among the wise to talk about the matter. He said it indirectly in Bible as reply to Satan when He was tempted, and we find it in book of Matthew 4:4. We knew that Jesus was not babbling when He told Satan that man could not live by bread alone. He stated it as general fact expecting men to infer that mental feeding is essential for man’s survival. He said it to Satan so that one might read it in scripture and know that both soul and body require feeding to function well.

Truth remains that God made soul and body to feed in different ways. According to an online health article (Hub Pages Inc., 2012) “We are made up of the body, soul and spirit. The mind is where the emotions, will power or soul resides. When the body, soul and spirit are out of sync with each other, all kinds of ill health (not only mental ill health) occur.” John W. Ritenbaugh supported this by saying that, God’s word is just as essential to the spiritual life as food is to physical life. He advised Christians mentally saying that they should see the need to eat healthy words (positive information) in order to be in complete health.

Every Christian believes that man is tripartite but only few know what it means. Man is made up of soul, spirit and body. How do we explain it? If you listen to the explanations of benighted preachers, you will remain confused and confounded. Find things out for yourself through research.

One thing we should know is that talks and issues concerning soul and spirit require erudition. People who lack enlightenment cannot give you right explanation. As an erudite man of God, I stand in right position to prove it to you that soul and spirit is one and the same thing. One difference between them is environment or place of existence. Soul is associated with the living while spirit is associated with the death. Soul exists in man as long as man remains alive. If he drops in death, his soul will transform and begin to exist in land of death as spirit. One thing that is very important to know is that soul feeds on information, and level of information in a soul determines its position as spirit after death.

Life is seen as journey in every realm of jungle. Information is like elevator or lift that carries individuals high in the journey. The more information you acquire, the higher you go. Soul with low information occupies a low position in jungle and when the person dies he becomes a spirit at the bottom side of Hades. You will find it hard to accept this as truth if you are not insightful and exposed through erudition. For what I know as an insightful Sage, individuals at low level in Hades are likely to descend into hell at last. Their chances of making heaven remain very rare unlike those at high level who appear to be very close heaven. This means that high level of information is essential if you want to make heaven at last.

Rational explanations from the wise reveal to us that there are two types of feeding – mental and material feeding. Soul feeds on information or learning while body feeds on physical food. Logically, these two classes of feeding are essential for two different classes of man’s development. Information or learning enhances mental development while material food helps body to grow and function well. These were divinely ordained from beginning when God saw need to differentiate man from animals in the world.

Man was made in God’s image and likeness (Genesis 1:26-27) and nature requires him to maintain equilibrium in feeding as tripartite being. The three parts that form a man are equivalent to the three parts that make up the Godhead. We learn from Bible that God had manifested Himself in three existential forms. If we accept it as fact that we are children of God, then attributes of the Godhead ought to be in us.

Accounts of creation, as contained in chapter one and two of Genesis, portrayed God as mental being. We saw Him in beginning as creative mind or sacred soul working with creativity. He created entire universe and manifested in beginning as creator, and men of old regarded Him as God the Father because He made us and universe together. He came afterwards and dwelled among us as Emmanuel, God with us. He got conceived in human womb and when they gave birth to him in manger, men saw Him with their physical eyes and regarded Him as God the Son. They named Him Jesus meaning God in bodily form. He died on Cross and the body was buried, and afterwards we began to relate to Him as God the Holy Ghost. We experience Him and feel His impacts both in us and among us daily in form of wonders, signs and miracles although we do not see Him any longer with our physical eyes. We commune with Him through prayers and He answers us, showing in many ways that He is a tripartite being just like man whom He created in his own image and likeness.

God’s expectation is that man should have equal balance in feeding as tripartite being. This was idea or inference we got when we heard Jesus telling Satan that man could not live by bread alone but by every word that proceeds from mouth of the lord. (Matthew 4:4) Soul has to be well fed with information or learning because it is level of information in a soul that determines its position as spirit after death. His body also cannot function well if it is not well fed with material food. Each existential part of man has to be nurtured. Life of an individual will remain unbalance, defile and crude in sight of God and men if feeding fails to reach equilibrium. Imbalance affects every facet of life and existence, resulting to a great problem in father-cum-son relationship between God and man.

I am a writer of great insight. Most people know me as a visionary mind. One of my poetic story is titled “Two-way Journey”. It is meant to feature life as journey in mental facet of human existence. The story reveals it vividly, relating two files of people that are involved in the journey. They include the uphill and the downhill. The story also teaches that quality of education or information acquired in reality will go a long way to determine man’s position in journey of life. Uphill is seen as individuals or souls in contemporary jungle who make laudable efforts to improve their lives through sound education or learning. Downhill, on other hand, is portrayed as souls who fail to improve in real life. The lack of improvement and it ugly effects gave impression that souls in downhill were mentally starved. They failed to feed their minds with required information and so, got themselves exposed to dangers of retardation and decadence.

The whole story is in rhyming lines like poem. The types of stanza used include two line, four line, six line and eight line stanzas. Rhyme schemes include aa, abab, aabbcc, and ababcdcd. A collection of incidental lyrics is affixed as part of the book. It is a sort of continuum taken from my list of crisp songs to form single album. The songs are in Igbo Language subtitled in English.
