Many fathers names are forgotten

04 August 2014, 11:20 Onyeji Dominic

Life is like one in a jungle where you take a walk of adventure which can be successful or unsuccessful for you. My question here is, 'Is your father's name forgotten in the jungle of life? It may seemed embarrassing to ask such question directly but, there a good reason for asking it. Don't be surprised because I am also a victim of this. If you preserve your father's name then, make sure you preserve yours too.

What do I mean? I mean that many names are forgotten here on earth not necessarily because such people do not have offspring to carry on with their names but that they ignorantly abandoned their names for the names of either their popular father's name or their grandfather and great-grandfather and more that they did were not even born to meet in life.

One the major reasons for this is that people want to be reckoned with a name that has been so famous; like that of former president, Rich-man, or a King that had reigned in the past. Because of some these reasons, some names are being re-circled within a given family or clan. This is not bad but, my point here is that many people passed through this earth but their names are forgotten on earth as if they never existed at all; not because they hadn't any child to carry on with their names but because they kept using a particular name of someone in their family that had lived may hundred years past, by so doing their own names are forgotten.

For instance, my surname is Imafidon whom I didn't even meet alive. I started using that name as my surname because my father said I should be using it; whereas he own name is now forgotten. I knew my father very well but his name is not known through me or in me, except my grand father that I did not know at all.

I am trying say that such a practice is not too proper. I have advised many to allow their own children use their own names as their children's surname so as not to be forgotten in the jungle of life. You answer your own father's name as your surname and allow your children use yours as their surname, so no name will be forgotten. My documents have made somehow impossible for me to change, especially here in a foreign land where documents are digitally recorded and changing it cost a lot of money and time. Start with your children that are just coming up now, to avoid spending much when it become so expensive to do. Now is the time.
