Nigerian prisons...

05 January 2015, 20:30

In response to the lies and fallacious write-up by some unscrupulous elements against the in charge of Medium Security Prison, Kuje Abuja.

We hereby wish to categorically condemn in strong terms all accusation melted against DCP Musa Tanko and some of the staff. According to our own private investigation, we are able to confirm that the write-up is the hand work of an ex- inmate who claimed to be a Barrister at Law, the man was released on bail Friday 19th December, 2014, and this man is known for writing false allegation against people; which forms parts of reasons his standing trial.

Though, it’s a normal saying  that silence is the best answer to a fool, but there’s need to respond to all these bunch of lies, so that the whole wide world which in interlinked by internet wouldn’t  think he’s saying the truth against a man who is just doing his work. The man in question was angry when the two officers he mentioned searched him and found some handsets and documents that contains write-ups with libel content on him, the items were confiscated and he threatened to fight back if released. So our source says that the authority of kuje prison is not surprised, that this might be his idea of fighting back.

We wish to inform, the whole world that ever since in-charges are being posted to kuje prison, DCP Musa Tanko has been outstanding in his dealings with staff, inmates and neighbors. He runs the affairs of the prison peacefully and in accordance with their ethics, rules and regulations as enshrined in the Prisons’ standing order and relevant circulars. Upon his arrival, DCP Musa Tanko has maintained a strict security arrangement by ensuring that all security organization (Army, Police and Prison Armed squad) works hand in hand in patrolling the prison and its environment. This has effectively stopped the cases of armed robbery and other social vices in shetuko and Pasali axis of Kuje Area council.

He did this without collecting a kobo from the communities, come to talk of him collecting money from his Inmates, also he has lead his inmates times without number in repairing the bad kuje prison/ Shetuko road. We urge news24.com to take it upon themselves as professional journalists and come to investigate all what has been said so as not to damage the good reputation DCP Musa Tanko has built over the years. He is a disciplined officer who doesn’t use or take alcohol and even frowns at staffs who are alcoholics.

Change, they say is difficult, but Mr Musa Tanko is an adherent of good change through proper and effective searching of both staff and Inmates.  Searches are done 2 to 3 times in a week and good results had been achieved in confiscating phones and illicit drugs. Also we observed that searching starts right from the main prison gate on shetuko road and it’s done by  the SSS, Police, Army and the conventional  Prison staff  so our question is that how on earth the 3 security organization would connive to smuggle alcohol into the yard.

On kuje Prison not being a rehabilitative ground any longer as alleged by the writer,  we residing around kuje prison have witnessed matriculations of inmate by national open university, WAEC and NECO Exams, and other good reformative instruments like good religious institutes (church and mosque),are  helping the inmates in the processes of reformation, rehabilitation and reintegration into the society. Finally, it was confirmed to us by our source that the man at the center of this attack, the DCP on assumption of duty in Kuje prison has confiscated Indian hemp worth over #900,000 . And the illicit drugs are presently in the custody as evidence.

The efforts include interception of these prohibited items even before it gets into the yard. Dozens of hand sets were also recovered during this period. All facts and evidences are there to substantiate the facts. Furthermore, our source also confirmed that the in-charge has expected this attack long before although it is coming now however, the station officer vowed to be undeterred in his efforts to eradicate all forms of vices within the Medium security prison kuje prison.
