Regarding Nigerian patients visiting India for surgery

27 October 2015, 17:13

The last few years have witnessed a growing trade between Nigeria and India. Nigeria's exports to India in minerals, coffee and spices has gone up significantly. India's contribution in terms of providing healthcare and medical tourism to patients from Nigeria has been appreciated.

Samuel Oyinbo is sharing his first hand experience visiting India for his cardiac heart bypass surgery. He lives in the Ogun State in the South-western Nigeria with his family. Samuel came visiting New Delhi-India for his surgery facilitated by the team at India4health.com

His initial symptoms included chest pain, fatigue, breathlessness and as time progressed it became much more severe. He consulted the cardiologist in Abuja and the doctor performed some tests on him and concluded that he had one or multiple blockage in the coronary artery of his heart. The local doctor in Nigeria recommended further investigation and if required even a bypass surgery. He added that the condition of the blockage was critical and needed immediate surgical intervention.

The patient's family decided to travel overseas for his CABG surgery and contacted  the customer service team at India4health.com through email. Once he reached India the hospital and doctors sprung into action. They took good care and helped him and wife settle down and get admission.

Initially. Mr Samuel was somewhat anxious but once his family reached at the hospital, the experience turned out really well.  In the next 3 days tests were undertaken and then the surgery  was performed. The very professional doctors at the hospital and the infrastructure  really impressed him.

Samuel returned to his home country- Nigeria after few weeks. However to fully recover it took him a few months or more. The diet has to be watched during this recovery. After full recovery, he joined a cardiac rehabilitation program. This program educates on stress management techniques and other important issues like about diet and exercise. This helped to rebuild his strength and confidence. Now over one year after his surgery he has got back to his regular routine and exercising.
