Suit up

04 June 2013, 12:55

Always wanted to say these words, makes me feel like the actor in a movie.

Suits have been a constant feature in the world of fashion since its inception. An essential must have in any male or female's wardrobe who know their onions in fashion.

Not just a flash in the pan or a one time feature thing, they supersede trends and seasons, and are arguably one of the longest items to remain constant in the fashion world.

Usually featured in the business circles for the up and trendy boss who wants to constantly portray that image of excellence, prestige an dominance, not forgetting class. It gives you a boost of confidence whenever and wherever you wear it to.

Over the years we have seen the suit image shift focus from not only the business world, but have been adopted by those who also want to make statements in their different fields or just want to attract a feeling of affluence to their person. Like we see in movies, music videos, and with our celebrity icons. Every one wants a taste of that important personality feeling attached to the suit.

Wearing a suit is not just about the suit, but the other items that bring out the life in the suit, from the colour of the shirt, tie, belt, pocket square, etc without these the suit is just a confused piece of clothing.

Did a little reading and surfing of the internet on the subject suits and discovered that there are actually four different kinds of suits,(shocked) i actually thought a suit is a suit, as long as it is a suit....(confused).

The 2 Button suit: single breasted style, and the most common of the four, goes for all body types.

The 3 Button suit: also single breasted but has a contemporary look to it. Depicts a youthful image.

Double breasted : havin 2 pockets, one on the left, and the other on the right breast, and usually a good choice for tall men. The Mandarin suit : the most unique of the four, has influences from the traditional eastern cultures, comes with many buttons or none at all.

So now you can put a name or style to the type of suit you wear. It is also allowed if you want incorporate your own ideas into the mix, depending on what works for you.

So with these few insights, i hope i have been able to convince you, not confuse you, that when next you are stepping out, you need to "suit up".
