Cross River State, (The Paradise City) has a population of about 3,337,517 (2011, PC) with her capital sited in Calabar. Cross River State, which is well know with luxuries, tourist sites and fun bays such as Obudu Cattle Range, Tinapa Resort, Marina Resort and ever fun/yearly carnival party which attract tourist and business men and women all over the world. Cross River State, which is the centre of fun and has accommodated both indigines and non-indigenes without bias. The rise in population in the state capital (Calabar) has created an hiccups suffered by not just indigines alone but non-indigenes respectively.
Little wondered, the street of Calabar has been flooded with little boys and girls whom have been tagged 'Scolombo Boiz' who have professionalize in forceful snatching of belongings such phones, jewelries, physical cash etc. Though hooliganism exist virtually in all States but I bet you my experience in Calabar will convince you that thugs in Lagos will pave way for you if you shout back at them when they attack you but I bet you can't try that in Calabar, the next picture is a gun or cutlass to put you to order. On the 15th January, 2015 " As a corps member rushing to work so as not to find fault before my boss, No. 55 Goldie Street Calabar South is where I reside but as I was walking to work, some guyz blocked me saying do you know I can obtain you and I said why now, he said oya bring everything on you.
To be a loyal boy, I removed my wallet and offered him #300, he shouted at me and said guy I say I won buy drugs you come dey give me dis kind change. No be your ATM dey your wallet so, oya guy see ATM outside, go pay your dues. They match me helplessly to the ATM outside Eco Bank Opposite Cultural Centre in Calabar with a gun because there was no security personnel outside the bank to watch the ATM. You wonder what time that happened (9:15am). After my help under duress, he said guy I beg collect 2k to the 2k wey u don give before, then I began to beg. Who am I to shout? Can you send someone to prison and on the return of such person expect you both to be friends? I have to keep mute to save my precious life".

I though my encounter with Scolombo Boiz was over, "On the 23rd March, 2015 at about 3:45am at my lodge, I suddenly heard my net protector unbolted and the next I heard was gboaaaaaaa on my door (forceful opening), I struggle the door with them and even scratched my kitchen knife on the floor to scare them but to no avail. The two masked guyz (one short with yellow mask and the tall one with black mask) both having a gun and a sparkling matchet. First and foremost he slapped me for scaring them and in the other moves, he took my laptop, two phones, clarinet and ask me for cash. All this are happening where I was squatting right under my NYSC crested vest and my cap begging them to spare me. One of them got angry and told me 'idiot, you no even get money' so he gave me another thunderous slap and raised his cutlass to cut me but the kitchen knife I am holding deflected the cutlass and I ended up with cut and bruises all over me.
So they match to my neighbours room but luckily before they finished robbing me, the couples had fled into the banana plantation at our backyard. All I heard from one of the boiz was 'nobody dey oooo, if anyone comot that your side, shoot am!', I grew more fear cox even police on patrol cannot help the situation". It has happened to me, how many more have suffered similar fate as mine and how many more will still be the victims if situation is not address in jiffy. I am not an enemy of progress. I love Cross River State but I want to plead with the Government and all Crossriverians to address this situation in earnest as many abandoned boiz and girlz are still roaming the street of Calabar. Is the Ministry of Social Welfare really repertrating them? Or Is there no better home or vocations for them to do? Addressing this issue will save Cross River State as a whole from the rising act of terrorism perpetrated by so called 'Scolombo Boiz'. Though there might be other groups unknown but a step to curb this act will save the entire State from impending doom. Please do something and save the Paradise City. #
