The timeless evolution of fashion

10 June 2013, 12:28

First of all let me state that fashion is one topic that can never get exhausted or spoken about in one context because of its various segments ranging from accessories to clothings, shoes, make up...etc, but focusing a little on clothing.

Was goin through some fashion designs, magazines and sites, so i thought to my self, can fashion be stopped or can people cease being fashionable?

Back in the days when we used to rock our baggy jeans, jersey tops, leather jackets, timberland boots...etc.(yea the gud old days), and we thought we were the flyest guys ever to walk the earth. We neva thought we would see the end of that era.

But as each year sets in, so do new designs n trends emerge, facing out that of the previous year. There's always an anticipation or should i say anxious expectation of what's coming next.

Lets take a trip down memory lane. Was there ever a year when, there wasn't any trend or style in vogue? Okay lets say during the time of adam and eve, there were only the two of them, so i cant see adam orderin a suit to impress eve. But at least they designed ways to be trendy with their leaves, animal skins...etc but there was a trend.

Coming forward a little, wen robes were the in thing, it just entailed stringin 2 or more robes together, maybe spice it up a little with colours- like Joseph's coat of many colours, which was also a new trend.

Coming back to our time, as often as we think no fashion trend supercedes a particular time or year, we are always proven wrong. But the joy of it is that this trends are now timeless, we are no longer hindered by seasons, years or eras.

Fine, there were some particular trends that ruled some era's. Like in the 80's, which was notorious for skin tight pants, baggy jeans, the days of MC Hammer. How can you explain wearing leg warmers, a sweater and a mini skirt all at the same time, a time were you could combine as many colours as you wished.

Or the 90's that witnessed the reign of baggy pants, timberland boots, birkenstock sandals...etc it was either that, or that. We didn't see much creative prowess because they were labelled eras.

Back then there was a rush for names because, there were limited designers who offered the best. I remember how i used to save up to be able to buy one labelled baggy jean or jacket(depending on the occassion). Huge amounts were spent on acquiring just one piece of clothing item (i was a sucker for quantity over quality).

Thank God for the year 2011 that has broken that stigma and has united past & present trends together. It was and still is a year we saw trends merge and look mind blowing.

Designers churned out designs daily like they were on drugs or something. It is a year that has seen rules broken over, and over again. Even the men are not holding back, spending time and money to look good, some even experimenting with make up.

So for you out there who is afraid to try or experiment because of time lines. That chain has been broken (yiipppeeee) fashion is now timeless, so you can be creative, even if it means playin with the styles from the 80's or 90's to create wat suits you, go ahead as far as you are comfortable.

Before i go, did i tell you fashion means - a current trend or style in practise. So don't be a slave to fashion, let it be your own slave.

As for me, am cleaning out my dad's closet, its time to try out that leather jacket....................*winks*
