United we stand

27 May 2014, 10:37

Nigeria is at war! This is the darkest moment of our history as a nation.  When faced with serious national challenges; there are individuals who stand tall and are focused on the right visionary and victorious path - the path of creative resolutions, greatness and prosperity. There are also those who are focused on destructive pettiness and primordialism of all sorts - the path of divisive tendencies of parochial partisanism, ethnicity or religion. We must not allow the latter group to derail us from the right path. We would need to correct this group not by lowering our values to theirs, not by joining issues with them but by explaining issues to them from a higher perspective.

We must constantly appeal to us all that we shed the toga of primordial attachment to ethnicity or religion as we take a united front to destroy the forces of evils in our land. Some comments posted on the social media by otherwise respected individuals which are clearly reflective of ethnic or religious bigotry on our national tragedies are regrettable.

Terrorism does not discriminate on the basis of ethnicity or religion; it destroys the very fabric of any nation if not timely incinerated. We must stand united against terrorism in our land! Our dear President Jonathan must act presidential now and lead the victory over terrorism in our land. Mr President should please tell us the names of the terrorists and their sponsors which he had severally claimed to have knowledge of. Mr President should know that unless he acts presidential and decisively deal with the terrorists and their sponsors, they will continue to plan more attacks and shed innocent bloods. The time for action is now!
