Every soul requires mental feeding to thrive and a nation will remain crippled and stagnant if majority of its inhabitants are not fatly fed with adequate information. Man is mentally starved when his mind is retarded. He cannot know how to explore or utilize his potentials, endowments and natural resources if he fails to embrace things like civilization, advancement and sound education. Every sincere wise fellow knows that life cannot do without information, and half education is said or known to be very dangerous to both man and society at large. All the same, backwardness and retardation are seen as great challenge to man in every developing country of the world. It is not everybody that can afford education. All of us cannot become learned and wise and so, information is rather trivial to many. Things like stories are not compulsory for man to accept, and nobody is mandated to take what is written here. This very story is not for everybody. Man is a free moral agent. He does what he likes and lives his life the way it pleases him. Truth is not hidden to man in life and it is not necessary to keep reminding him that all information is useful. It is written in Book of Revelation (Bible) that anyone who has ear let him listen to what the Spirit is saying to churches.
Everybody knows that social gatherings or assembles are characterized by mixed multitudes and it is equally a general belief that every lizard in jungles is lying flat. It is very hard for man to distinguish between good and evil because both evils and goods that men do are not written on their faces. Nevertheless, man will always live to face realities and challenges in life; he cannot deceive himself. He will continue to live in shame and regret in every realm of jungle as long as he fails to identify his flaws and take right measures to address them in reality. We do ourselves great evil (harm) when we live our lives in pretense. Truth demands that we should remain sincere to ourselves just like it is written in Bible, "Buy truth and sell it not."
World is full of hurdles and life is not bread and butter. We cannot make life a bed of roses if we fail to be dauntless and tough, facing challenges and troubles squarely. If we call ourselves children of God, we must admit that we are both strangers and pilgrims on earth. God is above and way that leads to heaven is rough and narrow according to Jesus, our Lord. Scripture reveals it, and common sense or experience shows that our paths to heaven will remain crooked as long as we continue to live like barbarians. God is not a civil engineer and Jesus does not construct roads for man in jungle. We cannot know how to build our crooked ways and make them straight for smooth journey to heaven until we see need to embrace things like advancement, civilization and education. Barbarians were known for being wicked and crooked because their uncivilized attitudes could not help in fetching what they actually needed to make their ways straight and smooth. They lived in misery as laborer in jungle just like Israelite of old who spent many years in house of bondage and finally died in wilderness of lack, penury, sorrow, shame, regret and the likes. Even all the miracles and divine interventions did not make much difference due to their seemingly lack of skill and civilization. Take it if you like or leave it if you don't. One thing that is certain is that man cannot travel smoothly to heaven as long his way remains narrow and crooked in contemporary jungle.
If we go to Bible and read through first and second chapters of Genesis, we will see different accounts of creation, how God created universe. We will see that man was last thing God created. He was made in God’s image and likeness and was endowed with powers and potentials to enable him continue the creation from where God stopped. We were told that Adam and Eve were created by God and that every other human being can trace his or her root back to that garden called Eden. We were all from that lineage, off-springs of the first man, Adam, made in God’s image, possessing all powers and potentials that we have in Adam. We are replica of God on earth. We have His abilities embedded in us. We can create just like He did from beginning.
Everything in this life was made by God. Scriptures reveal to us that he created universe and gave man two major assignments – procreation and development, two divine tasks to continue creation from where God stopped. Adam was given powers to be fruitful, multiply and subdue (develop) the earth, and the powers and potentials are transferred to us all through birth. This means that each and every one of us has roles to play in creation and development of the earth. So, how does it work? What roles have you as individual to play in creativity and development of the earth? We all have roles to play and we have got to discover it in us, the plans and potentials that God has put in each of us.
Adam alone could not do the task. He could not subdue the earth single handedly. In his own time there was nothing like car, airplane and the likes. He gave birth to people and as number of men was increasing on earth, divine potentials and powers also increased and so, we began to see fruitfulness and development. It means that each of us has roles to play. The question then is “What roles have individuals got and how are they discovered?
God has given to us a great task to make this world a better place for us. The divine abilities are embedded in us, and if we go through Mosaic stories rationally, we shall see examples and plans which were divinely mapped out for us to follow. Bible is known to us as divine compass. It contains everything in detail to guide our journey (pilgrimage) to heaven. If we thoroughly appreciate the word (Bible), we will observe that God adopted a very long-term plan to solve problem of his people in house of bondage. He was quite impersonal and strict like any incorruptible bureaucrat on earth. The way he handled situations and those roles he played in mosaic stories show that solution to every problem is with the problem and that as problem surfaces, solution also surfaces and grows alongside with the problem to full maturity. The stories reveal that problem of Israelite surfaced when a brutish ruler arose in Egypt. The writer or narrator referred to him as a Pharaoh who knew not Joseph. We observe that Moses, who we saw as solution to the problem, was conceived at that same time when the brutish ruler arose. The solution grew with the problem because we saw it also that it was intensity or severity of the problem that prepared platform for solution.
God was very strict in those parts he played to deliver Israel from house of bondage. He maintained his place as God and played his role with red tape. He knew that what Israelites needed were qualified leaders, and since none was found in their midst to use, he decided to turn a deaf ear to their cry and let them remained in their problem till the cows came home (passing through normal process to get qualified and mature as leaders). The people were in bondage, going through hell and there was nothing anybody could do about it because divine intervention was coming through a rigid procedure. Everything had to be done in right and normal way. Someone had to go through normal system and get trained as a leader to lead the people out of bondage. God did not need to send angels for their deliverance because solutions to man’s problems are wrapped up with problems. They will get solved naturally if he does right and normal things.
Mosaic stories revealed to us that illiteracy was major root of problems which Israelites encountered or faced in house of bondage. It was evidence in the stories that children of Israel were stack illiterates. God saw that they could neither read nor write and so, he decided to make them see light by making a way for Moses in palace where he had opportunity to school up to university level. This means that sound education is very important for man to survive in life. His journey to heaven will remain rough and crooked until he sees need to embrace it like husband or wife.
According to the mosaic stories, children of Israel cried unto God for help but did not get answer until Moses, the solution, grew naturally and became matured and learned to God’s satisfaction. We were told that he was adopted into palace by divine intervention and was given opportunity to pass through formal education up to university level in Egypt. This shows that God was so strict in his dealing with man. He is an unbiased God, a Bureaucrat to the core. He will not listen to anybody’s cry until the person learns his lessons and do right and normal things.
Truth is that God wanted a man who could speak and be heard, a renowned humanitarian activist who had what it would take to stand before Pharaoh and say, “Thus says the Lord, ‘Let my people go.’ ” God knew that a mean man would not gain access into the palace not to talk of standing before Pharaoh, the president. He wanted a man of great repute, highly respected and recognized in the land; not just a leader but an honorable figure with sound academic background.
God wanted to make history out of his people and so, required a qualified leader who could write expressly, possessing the academic skill to put events and experiences down for mankind to read and learn from history. If Moses was not educated he could not have been able to write the historic Mosaic stories and laws as contained in books of Genesis, Exodus, Numbers, etc. God does not take pleasure in mediocrity. If need arises for him to use a man, he would first ensure that the man has sound education. This is because God is an Epoch Maker and very historic event has to be on record for future and reverence purpose.
History revealed it to us that Israelite was stack illiterates. They could neither read nor write not to talk of expressing events and experiences in writing. Bible said that their cry went up to heaven on several occasions. But they could not attract needed attentions from God. The reason was that they had no qualified person in their midst for God to use as a leader at that time. He heard their cry and was moved. But their ignorance and mediocre-living stood as barriers, and could not allow him to act immediately. So, he decided to adopt a long-term plan in order to remove the barriers. It was the long-term plan that made Israel to remain in bondage for eighty years, counting from day Moses was born to day of their departure from Egypt, ugly eighty years in hell as unskilled laborers in jungle of misery.
Problems and challenges in house of bondage were actually caused by both ignorance and misuse of opportunity. Israelite had chance of free education during reign of their big brother, Joseph. But they misused that opportunity. All of them would have had free education if not for their lack of academic interest. The story revealed that system of education those days were both complete and sound. We were told that Pharaoh had professional advisers like philosophers, astrologers and magicians. There were universities in Egypt when Joseph was reigning as second in command (Vice President). But none of the Israelite indicated interest for education. They were only after food and procreation; eating, drinking and giving themselves in marriage. The story said that number of the people increased heavily. But none had anything to show in academics. They remained stack illiterates even when they had opportunities to school freely in Egypt.??
A thorough look around the world today will reveal to us that many are still misusing golden opportunities like Israel did in Egypt. Our society is full of individuals who lack interest in education even when they have opportunities on their finger tips. Investigation and research had revealed that problems of backwardness in countries of third-world were due to lack of academic keenness. Most of us here in Africa do not value education. That is why things are deteriorating in the countries. Majority of Africans are still going downhill despite great number of colleges and universities scattered all over western world. Majority of our students are just whiling away their time in pretense or make-believe. They are wasting away in our universities and polytechnics. If you doubt, go to labor market and see them. Millions graduate as pseuds, quacks and mediocrities each year. Rate of development is low or zero because number of learned men is low in Africa. Go to advance world and see things for yourself. Rate of development is both high and rapid because totality of men in advance world is both learned and academic conscious. You will hardly find a retarded mind in first-world. Individuals there are all married to education unlike in Africa where most people are after pleasure and procreation, wasting away, doing no profitable thing for advancement.
