It’s been months since the WAEC exams ended and students started taking their Post UME exams in preparation for entering into the universities. Most of the Universities have released their Post UME results but WAEC is yet to allow these lads a good night sleep.
Question is: Why has the board not released the results of exams that have been since marked?
My kid sister who took the exam called with excitement blurring her words to tell me that she had gotten admission into her school of choice. I was ecstatic. Still calculating in my head what she would do to my wears when she got to Lagos before hitting school, I got another call from her.
This time, there was no excitement but panic in her voice. She heard that higher institutions were threatening to revoke the admissions if the students didn’t come for clearance/screening. Of course, you have to be armed with your WAEC and other results to make it through.
I am perturbed and seeing as I do not know how true the rumour is; and praying with every beat of the heart that the rumour be false, I decided to put it in writing. Maybe I can get some answers. Maybe I can just cool off knowing I have said my bit and that divine providence would make my bit worth something. I really do not know.
All I know is, I do not want my baby sister in such pains. I am in the journalism world and with news flying by at the speed of light; you get to see reactions from all and sundry. A story about WAEC saying the results would be released in August has been clicked on more times than expected. This is because parents are worried for their children. Siblings are anxious and even the students are crossing and uncrossing their fingers in anticipation. They keep going back to that story hoping the text would perhaps change to say what they have been eager for which is ‘ WAEC results are out’.
Imagine the ache they get each time they stare at the exact same words they have read and almost mastered.
It perhaps affects those concerned more than those who have no one in that situation but the call has to be made. WAEC has to know what is at stake in them holding back these results.
I know the sweat my sister has poured into writing her papers well and pray that somehow after writing this piece, just like Aladdin, the results will be released poof!
Who knows, it just might happen like that! I am very hopeful!
