The battle line between the Oba A.A Oguntayo (The Ajalorun of Ijebu Ife) and the entire community of Iwaye Alagemo Ijebu precisely the head of the community in person of High Chief Kolawole Ogunde (The Oloja Sakoyi of Iwaye Ijebu) is so critical in the sense that the entire community is in a panic to freely move about even staying in the frontage of their domestic places being that the Alagemo group lead by Oloja Sakoyi Iwaye was disrupted performing their traditional Agemo festival by the armed force (OP MESA), this was the consent of Ajalorun of Ijebu-Ife, though there was a case between the community and the leader (The Oloja Sakoyi of Iwaye Ijebu) and the Ajalorun Of Ife at the law court to strike out the traditional Agemo festival in favour of Ajalorun of Ife.
The Oloja Iwaye of Ijebu, being a law abiding citizen and having in mind to go against anything that will adversely affect the public peace. He went further to make an appeal at the law court (Ibadan) to perform the traditional rights with backup document.
The appeal document was disclosed to office of the area commander of police (Ijebu), DPO (Ogbere), and the chairman of Ijebu East local govt. Hon Dare Ogunde, on this note, the area commander of police sent his policemen to Iwaye community to provide security when the traditional festival activities is going on, suddenly the Ajalorun of Ijebu-Ife came with OP MESA group to alter and vandalize the traditional rights. With this act the Ajalorun has proved himself to be above the law, rendering such act imploring a large number of OP MESA troop from Ilese army barracks (SAPA) with full force disrupting the peace of the community, biting the people of the community, chiefs and invited guest to point of death, even when the letter from appeal court was shown openly to them, their response is that they are not interested that they are instructed to kill anybody found performing any act relating to Agemo festival by the Ajalorun of Ijebu ife.
Taking a reference from a likely issue of Agemo Olumoko between Oba Olowu Iji of Odolowu and the Owa of Okun Owa Ijebu, we heard in history that the paramount ruler of Ijebu land (The Awujale of Ijebu-land) made it clear that the Agemo should be in installation of none of the above mentioned kings. By so doing, the Oba of Ijebu Ife should have no right disrupting the Agemo festival with use of OP MESA team.
As of the said date and time preparing for the traditional rituals the community people, chiefs and invited guest were injured by the OP MESA team and being hospitalized , even the Ijebu-east local Govt. chairman was at the scene of action. The Oba Ajalorun believe he was fighting for the betterment of the community in cancelling the Agemo festival but it’s a surprised that the whole community themselves was not in support, in conclusion this was only his own self consent. The community are scared to express their feelings but could not, due to rampage of armed force all over the town, they intend going in masses but taught of their families and relatives in the sense that the issue might leads to loss of many life
As of this time writing this report (16/03/14, 03:50pm) the town was in a critical moment.
It was reported that the traditional women group (Olorisa Iwaye Ijebu) was disturb entering their shrine by the OP MESA team, biting them mercilessly.
On behalf of the entire Iwaye community, we implore the Inspector General of police, state government, and other government officials to please interfere and respond to this issue to avoid more loss of life.
