Transparency is the first quality that describes a good government with honest and responsive intentions that has the interest of its citizens at heart. The train that carries its goals and agendas is supposed to have the masses among the list of its passengers so as to make a safe and accountable journey to the proper destination.
A system of government where the masses develop negative feelings and pessimism on the future of the government is not a healthy one. Such feelings must have been necessitated by previous experience from such system. Also it must have proved how incompetent the leaders are in running the affairs of the country.
These things causes lack of interest by the public in the affairs of state and any new improvement or reformation strategy that the government tries to implement will get but little response from the public.
For example, the transformation agenda set out for Nigeria by president Goodluck Jonathan is not having a headway due to reasons mentioned above. Citizens can only believe and work in concurrence with a system of government that they know at the end of it all, it will favour them.
Selflessness on the part of the leaders is the way forward for every government that hopes to attain positive results, leaders ought to build confidence on the mind of their followers from what the do, by that they wont be afraid to follow when they know they will be led to light.
To experience the good government that we so dream of: the system of government has to be effective, transparent, accountable and devoid of corruption. The common man should have a say on what the government's priorities should be and be confident that they will implement it completely.
Information should be made available to the public on how public funds is spent and the outcome should benefit the masses so that everyone can have a good life.
