Your legacy lingers on - Cyprian Ekwency

04 November 2015, 13:19 Momoh Ayuba Danjumah

Father to a father upon a father you are in literary circle since time memorial you hang your quill on a platter of stench of death your works give a smile to a reader an accomplishment to a starter a zest to a worker a wisdom to a learner a pen carved with lines of inspirations a voice to the voiceless to end the sting of boredom fluctuating in the abyss of Abyssinia an icon you are from birth to death sending parcel of knowledge to upcoming writers your image is rare in this scene weight to the equal of a god in literary camp millions upon millions tongue roar as the intruder(news) came your demise dug out a hell from the shallowness of our slumber oh destroyer of pleasure your present a cataclysm you abridge the gap between a sage and and a stage but your legacy lingers on in our heart.

This day 4 of November 2007 was a remarkable day in the heart of literary lovers. A day when one of the front liners of literature bids us farewell. Its tragic and sympathizing when a blessed nation lost an icon in literary activities but what is more painful is when the inhabitants of that particular geographical area pays with a nonchalant attitudes towards the tribute of a sage,  abandoning with no trace of resentment the great works of his that had contributed hugely in the development of our existence.

It drown on us today 4/11 marks a solid eight years when the cold hands of death caressed an icon "CYPRIAN EKWENCY" in Enugu and give him a free ticket to the beyond. His solid works stand still  and will continue to tread on that path in his original triumph from all his twenty five published books that counts across all spheres of life.  I am in a melancholic seeing youths of this generation know not who is he, a hero from birth in 1921 to his last breath in 2007. Sense of excitement pays me a visit each time i flipped through his books, critical coherence induced satisfaction in me from every lines that formed in his woks. My tribute of him lies as a foundation from the abyss of my heart that we still remember you till the end of time.
