Benefits of undergoing CABG surgery

31 August 2016, 14:57

Benefits of coronary bypass surgery when compared to stent placement, is that this surgical revascularization procedure is an effective & long-lasting treatment than the stent placement procedure. The only disadvantage of coronary artery bypass procedure is that it is an operation involving surgical intervention. The CABG procedure involves a surgical trauma or an incision to the body & which will take a few weeks of time for coronary artery bypass surgery recovery. However, CABG success rates are excellent & most patients recover quite well.

Why do some people require coronary bypass surgery instead of stent placement?

There are certain situations for heart patients which clearly indicate that coronary artery bypass surgery is better than any medical therapy or the stent placement angioplasty procedure. These situations include where blockage is only of one artery & that which is the main artery to the entire heart. This artery is known as the left main coronary artery. Whenever a patient is having significant blockage to this artery, standard of care for this condition always is coronary bypass surgery. However, there are other situations which often mimic this condition, like left main equivalent blockages or stenosis. Most cardiologists & cardiac surgeons in such cases would generally agree that coronary bypass surgery procedure is far superior to stent placement. But then, since angioplasty with stent placements are getting better & better by the day, it is controversial to pass any judgment. Therefore, cardiologists have to constantly & individually evaluate every patient so as to determine what is best for the patient in a given situation.

What can patients do in preparation for coronary bypass surgery?

The first thing any patient can do is to choose a cardiologist or a cardiac surgeon for treatment. Once this is done, the patient will naturally feel comfortable & relax. Although coronary bypass surgery is a big operation for the patient, it is simply a routine procedure for most cardiac surgeons. CABG surgery is a procedure they perform all the time & most patients are found to do extremely well after the operation. In order to improve coronary artery bypass surgery recovery, patients preparing for this procedure must quit smoking in case they do as a specific preparation for this procedure. Moreover, heart patients who are seeking this procedure must also lose weight so as to improve CABG success rates. It would also be sensible to just follow the advice of the cardiac surgeon & maintain confidence for a successful outcome.

Low Cost CABG Surgery in India

Coronary artery bypass grafting cost in India would generally please every heart patient around the world who is seeking affordable solutions along with good CABG success rates. Quality of surgery & CABG success rates in India are good & at par with the best in the world. Just imagine, coronary artery bypass grafting cost in India is somewhere around $7,000 while a similar treatment would cost $130,000. Amount of money which international patients can save by undergoing CABG surgery in India is unbelievable. Additionally, this is another benefit associated with CABG surgery for patients with coronary artery heart disease.
