OUR BELOVED PRESIDENT,
It’s the beginning of a new year, a new dawn and we are happy. Nigerian youths would like to remind you that youths are crucial and essential in any national development.
Most powerful nations in the world use the youth in building social cohesion, economic prosperity and political stability in a nation with such an inclusive and democratic leadership. Unfortunately here in Nigeria virtually all our successive government gives a damn, they give bairn-like approach to youths development, whereas youths are to be involved in building or developing a nation.
Thus, the involvement of youth in national development is a must. In fact, youths plays one of the most important roles in nation building. Youth are not only the leaders of tomorrow, but also the partners of today but it is sad we are not partners in building our tomorrow.
In the last election young people became social actors of change and progress, they are a crucial segment of a nation’s development, Alas, the government have no road map, no agenda for the youth, its not just about building classroom or sponsoring sporting activities, our jet clubs are not sponsored, inventors dies with their ideas in this country, We are yet to see an inventors and innovators union, Youths problem is not money.
I can remember vividly how Addidas is now making money with our Nigerian born youth, a shoe designer, What about internet guru philip emegualli? Its been 9 months and nothing has been done for the youths.
Mr Pressident it is also well noted that "No nation had succeeded the way Nigeria has been run in the last quarter century" and it required different values to snatch the promise from the jaws of selfishness and ignorance of a generation that has consumed its share of posterity and prosperity, rubbished the possibilities for their children and, in gluttony, are gabbling up the prospects for their grand children.
For Most Youths Life has been an impassioned struggle for liberation of what I always thought of was a history held hostage. The freedom war of change has been waged not with certainty about the best way forward, but with fortitude in providence being kind to honest, and determined effort.
We are also quick to understanding that the generation squandering the promise of Nigeria was not necessarily the wicked one, but a generation that had failed to understand the historic mission of its generation and had allowed petty self-interest to let it mortgage today and tomorrow.
How do you raise people's consciousness without telling them they are ignorant people? Sir, Since the past 5 years I have challenged from without and engaged from within, but was clear in my mind that whatever I communicated was in the citizens political consciousness.
It is not about me but about the burden of a generation, and so I was always awkward about the attention and result struggle brought atimes. Now I have decide to made a deliberate decision and focus on the issues that were threatening a generational mission on the one hand and to work with shaping the consciousness of the generation next, through advocacy and academic work.
Even though, as a student, the choice is all about helping others build successful ventures to inspire a Nigeria rising as more grace than is fair to expect, had come my way, and sustained the stretch these roles may put on me, but my unspoken fear was that all the sacrifice may work towards nil, as a small cabal, obsessed with power, beyond purpose seemed steadily steering Nigeria towards the same failed end-state I feared.
I was beginning to feel life's struggle may amount to a waste, but I am too scared to articulate it lest I cause many who have hope because of my proselytism on the Nigeria condition to despair. Poor zeal had to begin to assure me there is much value from my time of being.
The complexity of what Nigeria is struggling with is in the fact that within the same generation, that was failed, by one of its own, many still recognize the need to salvage coming generations from the errors of their time but a few of the same generation constituting a cabal, who thinks they define the age, have arrogantly continued to uphold their ways, want to continue in the power arena they arrived at as twenty-something-years old, even as they reach their 70th birthday.
As a young Nigerian, I was angry, as insights showed me a tomorrow that was the beginning of economic meltdown and civil docility in a country of promise and a people of hope who would redeem the black man from several hundred wilderness years of oppression and slavery; Sir, We the youths are filled with bubbling enthusiasm which has to be regulated and utilized right-away.
This can surely ensure rapid national development. After all, all the people can only exercise their full potential when they are young and energetic. Youth is that period in which revolutionary thoughts spring to mind and these thoughts shape the world we live in.
Mark Zuckerberg, the founder of Facebook, is a living example. He had a revolutionary thought and he exercised his thought and look, how he has changed the world today! The policies and development works of a nation can only be carried out by the youth. As said earlier, they are the social actors of change and progress. They carry out the policies and do all the development works which older people are incapable of actually carrying out.
I remember vividly how the youth used social media for Nigeria's celebrated revolution, now yell me what they no fit do, Nigeria production industry lack processing and today we export everything we produce because youth are not equipped enough, Ask china why they became the No 1 economy in the world, its by empowering the youth, I hope the president reads this.
This change Manifesto's can never be manifested without the youths It must be noted that most of the problems we face are also because of youth.
It is true that youth have got energy, skill, hopes, and dreams and along with those the determination and exuberance but they also lack proper and critical thinking. Thus youth which could have been the pioneer of some world-changing act may very well become world-destroying terrorists.
Thus, here lies the role of a nation and its government in guiding the youth to the correct way of living and in utilizing their vital energy and desire for the betterment of the nation. For this, proper education system and good political situation is required.
Moral education is a must for this as well. If youth can be motivated and educated the right way, they surely can spearhead the progress of a nation and make the world a better place to live. Mr President we still wonder about our non existence in the change agenda we got.
We ask what have the president done for the youth in its its 9month achievement, Its a new year, we still remmember vision 2020, we want a blueprint Its a 4 yrs journey that must start today, we must feel the change, The change we all wanted.
