‘Tick, tick, tick’ it runs without even minding whether we can meet up with it or not. It becomes a struggle, trying to meet up with it along with a bag full of loads called goals. No one wants to be left out, so we can’t watch but have to keep going. What am I talking about here? It’s called TIME- which brings me to the 5 second rule.
Creating a good first impression matters a lot, but for a person who
understands that life is about connecting with people, creating a
lasting impression becomes a top priority, after all, we all want to be
remembered for something, we want to feel among something, we want to be loved, nothing says it more, than having someone walk up to you and say “thank you. You made my day”. In the long run it is all about having an impact on someone, something, somewhere, sometime.
Also, in a world, where time dictates everything, we are super conscious of the fact that once we close our eyes, by the time we open it, a second as gone in the realm of time and another day is about to start. Oftentimes, we let procrastination, laziness, fear of the unknown get in the way of our goals and time and at the end we discover ‘oh my! Time as gone, it’s too late’ and the dream slips away leaving us unfulfilled and depressed. The grave is truly the richest place on earth because there lies dreams unfilled, talents undiscovered, gifts that were never manifested and power that could change the world for the better but was never revealed- all buried deep down in the ground.
Anyways, fast forwarding to the 5 seconds rule is what I label ‘the just do it spirit’ which is bound to change your life for the best. I got this inspiration from a TEDx talk by Mel Robbins, and in her presentation, she said ‘if you have an impulse to act on a goal, you must physically move within 5 seconds or your brain will kill the idea”. That’s deep but so true.
I discovered that indeed it true because most times I have this chain of ideas on what to write, chains of ideas on how to make my business better, to-do-lists of a particular day, sometimes I tell myself, ‘ you are going learn that thing today, ‘you are going to do some exercise this morning’, and the list is endless, but because it’s different from my normal routine, my brain practically pulls the ‘emergency brain’ when am about to do the things have set out to do and at the end, I end up doing nothing. And the circle repeats itself. You might have found yourself in my position once or twice or even still now. It’s time to go team 5 second rule.
Within, 5 seconds of getting an idea or wanting to do something, start work on it immediately.Do you want to lose some weight? Start researching on how to lose some in the healthy way, have youalways wanted to visit that friend? Get up now and get dressed, have you always wanted to start a business? Pick a pen and draw up that business plan? Because you’ve got 5 seconds to act NOW before your brain kills that impulse you’re getting to do it.
It’s time to stop the long pity partying of watching your dreams slip away with time and get busy starting ways of redeeming back that time by working on your goals. It’s simple but not easy but setting your mind of following the principle of the 5 second rule will make it a lot easier. It’s time to wake up people! Time is ticking away.
