11 suspected criminals arrested in Ogun

07 May 2014, 21:16

Abeokuta - The Ogun Police Command has arrested 11 suspected criminals notorious for disturbing the peace of residents of Idi-Agbon village in Ado- Odo/ Otta Local Government Area.

The command's spokesperson, Muyiwa Adejobi, who stated this in a statement on Tuesday in Abeokuta, said two AK 47 rifle, three pump action guns, and 48 live cartridges were recovered from them.

Adejobi said that the men were arrested in Otta on Saturday at about 6 p.m. as they were unleashing terror on residents.

"The activities of land grabbers (called Ajagungbales in Yoruba) have been a source of concern to all and sundry, particularly the police.

"They have continued to unleash terror on the innocent people of the state with the use of sophisticated weapons," he said.

Adejobi said the Commissioner of Police in the state, Ikemefuna Okoye, had ordered full investigation into the matter, and had also directed that anyone found culpable should be prosecuted.

He warned that the command would not tolerate any act of terror, hooliganism or vandalism or any act capable of disturbing the peace of the people.

Adejobi appealed to members of the public to always inform the police or other security agencies of any criminal activities around them.
