14 suspects nabbed at Lagos airport for drug possession

31 December 2014, 13:00

Abuja - Officials from the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have arrested 14 suspects at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) after they were found to be in possession of 33.65 kilograms of narcotics.

Eight of the suspects are believed to have attempted to smuggle cocaine into the country from Brazil and Argentina while six others were taking drugs to Hong Kong, Dubai, Italy and Brazil, Nigerian Tribune has disclosed.

According to Hamza Umar, NDLEA commander at the Lagos airport, four of the suspects were apprehended on one flight and various methods of concealment were used. These include dissolving the drugs in water and absorbing them in towels and t-shirts, industrially packing the narcotics in tin foods, body cream packs and ingestion as well.
