15 relatives of former Kogi Governor Audu arrested

08 September 2016, 06:19

Abuja - The Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) has confirmed the arrest of 15 relatives linked to former Kogi State Governor Abubakar Audu.

According to a Naij report, a family source claimed that the relatives were arrested on the order of current Kogi Governor Yahaya Bello and are currently being held at the Lokoja Prison.

Alongside the family members was Audu's eldest son, who was also allegedly apprehended by operatives.

Governor Bello has since denied that he ordered the family to be arrested, claiming that security operatives are free to do their jobs without government interference.

"The Governor did not order the arrest of anybody. However, law enforcement agents are free to effect arrest when anyone infringes the Law. If members of Audu family run foul of the Law, they would not be spared just because they are members of Audu’s family. Nobody is above the law. Even if members of the Governor’s family break the law, they will be arrested," Bello stated.
