18 arrested for violent Taraba clashes

Taraba - Taraba State Command has paraded 18 suspects arrested in connection with the recent violence that erupted in Ibi Local Government Council.

According to a senior police officer in the command, said a team of police officers on surveillance in the area arrested the suspects.

The State Police Public Relations Officer Joseph Kwaji, paraded Ali Mohammed, Yahaya Jibrin, Abubakar Isah, Usege Andrew, Emmanuel Adata, Hamza Habu, Soel Solomon, Adamu Isah, Bello Elisha, Jamilu Abdulsalam, Ahmadu Yahaya, Auwalu Ibrahim, Adamu Ibrahim, Samson Obadiah, Shehu Umar, Samaila Umar, Harisu Danladi and Abubakar Ahmed.

He said the suspects had provided useful information to police that would lead to the arrest of other culprits.

Kwaji added that the suspects criminally conspired among themselves and razed down several houses in the administrative headquarters of the council which led to the breakdown of law and order.

He said the suspects would be charged for criminal conspiracy, unlawful assembly, disturbance of public peace and mischief by firemen, which according to him is contrary to Sections 97, 102, 114 and 336 of the Penal Code respectively.
