Buji - Two clay mine workers were on Saturday killed at a burrow pit in Yayarin-Tukur village of Buji Local Government Area of Jigawa, the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports.
One other person was also wounded in the accident, which occurred on Saturday, when dozens of villagers were extracting gravel and clay at the pit.
An eyewitness, Malam Musa Umaru, told NAN that the miners were killed when a cliff collapsed and buried them.
Umaru said that the deceased were extracting clay beneath a cliff when it suddenly collapsed, adding that two of them died on the spot while one other person sustained injuries.
"I was also extracting clay from the other side of the pit. Then there was a loud bang and dust coming from the collapsed cliff.
"We rushed to their rescue but we found them dead," Umaru narrated.
Alhaji Isa Bello, the Chairman of the council, confirmed the incident, adding that the wounded miner had been referred to the Federal Medical Centre, Birnin-Kudu.
