Ikponmwosa Omoigiade who is the project coordinator said the training part of a bigger project which is focused on de-radicalization, counter-terrorism and migration in Northern Nigeria and has already been done for the clerics in Borno and Yobe state.

The coordinator said the “clerics, who comprised imams, scholars and proprietors of Almajiri schools, were trained on how to identify and contain Boko Haram ideologies and extremism in their areas with the aid of manuals by clerics from Islamic Da’awah Centre and Arabic teachers from Ahmadu Bello University.”

Omoigiade applauded the cleric for the commitment shown in the training and said he result would be assessed on how affected the areas.

Meanwhile indications have shown that the  United States prevented Nigeria from acquiring a ground attack aircraft considered crucial in the ongoing campaign against Boko Haram according to News24.

The US has prevented the Nigerian military from acquiring a A-29 Super Tucano light attack aircraft from Brazil.

A Presidency source said on Saturday that Nigeria and Brazil were almost striking a deal on the acquisition of the light attack aircraft when the US, which produced the aircraft, prevented the deal.
