2016 Budget: Osinbajo, Dogara 'exchange fruitful ideas'

16 April 2016, 08:59

Abuja - Controversies surrounding the 2016 budget could come to an end after Vice President Yemi Osinbajo and the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara reportedly exchanged "fruitful" ideas on Friday.

According to Punch, the presidency requested the National assembly to look into the "grey areas" of the N6.06 trillion budget.

"What happened was that the speaker received a list of items from the VP and the understanding is that the National Assembly should retain some of the provisions in the budget the way they came from the executive," a senior legislative official was quoted as saying.

This came after President Muhammadu Buhari confronted the National Assembly over details of distortions orchestrated by the lawmakers in the budget and asked them to address them in the interest of the nation.

Buhari told the leadership of the National Assembly that he did not like some of the changes which the lawmakers made to the budget, in particular, the removal of funds meant for major national projects.

He asked the National Assembly to take back the 2016 budget and add the important projects which they had removed.
