3 Chinese nationals repatriated for illegal mining

05 October 2012, 14:15

Osun - The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Osun Command, has repatriated three Chinese nationals for illegally mining gold at Akumodi, Atakumosa Local Government Area of Osun.

Mr Ola Omolere, Comptroller of the state command, made this disclosure in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday in Osogbo.

Omolere spoke with NAN shortly after he had decorated 25 newly promoted officers at the premises of the state command.

Three officers were promoted from the rank of Assistant Controllers to Deputy Controllers, one from Chief Superintendent to Assistant Controller, and nine from Inspectors to Senior Inspectors.

Omolere said the foreign miners were operating without the necessary papers.

The NIS chief told NAN that the three foreigners were interrogated and thereafter, sent baqck to China through the Murtala Muhammed Airport, Ikeja, Lagos.

He explained that there was no other form of sanction meted out to the illegal miners, except that they were asked to vacate the minefield.

According to him, this is expected to check the activities of other illegal miners in the state and the country at large.

The NIS controller warned other illegal miners to retrace their steps and acquaint themselves with the rules and regulations on mining.
