3 arrested over abduction of 3-year-old boy

Abakaliki  - The Police in Ebonyi said on Wednesday that the command had arrested three suspects in connection with the abduction of a three-year- old boy in Iyioji Community of Akaeze in the  Ivo Local Government Area of the state.

It will be recalled that the was among the nine children kidnapped in the community between December, 2012 and Feb. 5, this year.

The boy was kidnapped on Feb. 4 in front of his parent's compound at Obulo-Iyioji Village.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) learnt that the boy's abductors disguised as customers to the mother of the victim, Mrs Nnennaya Emmanuel, and took away the boy as the unsuspecting mother went inside the room to get drinks for the suspects.

The state's Police Public Relations Officer, DSP. Sylvester Igbo, told newsmen in Abakaliki that one Obi and Chinonso, both from Enugu State and one other person whose name was not disclosed had been arrested in connection with the incident.

According to Igbo, the police have intensified effort to smash the syndicate responsible for the abduction of children in the area.

``’The  Imo State Police Command has arrested some suspects in connection with the kidnap of nine children in Ishiagu and the suspects will soon be transferred to Ebonyi for more investigations and prosecution,’’ he said.

It will also be recalled that some unknown gunmen had in December, unleashed mayhem on three villages in the Ivo Local Government Area and abducted nine children whose ages range from three to five years.

The incident led to a protest by people of the area demanding for the release of the abducted children.
