Oyo - No fewer than 31 persons were killed in 36 road accidents in August in Oyo State, the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) said in Ibadan on Wednesday.
Mr Godwin Ogagaoghene, the Oyo State Sector Commander of FRSC, said in a statement that 279 people were involved in the accidents among whom 124 were injured.
Ogagaoghene said most of the accidents were caused by the violation of traffic rules by motorists with many drivers violating the rule on the use of seatbelt.
He said that of 438 traffic law offenders arrested in August, 239 were issued seatbelt violation tickets.
He also said that the commission issued 47 motorcyclists tickets for riding without crash helmets.
Ogagaoghene advised motorists and other road users to exercise patience on the road and to obey traffic laws, stressing that caution was always fundamental.
