09 September 2013, 21:01

Abuja - The police on Monday arraigned Emmanuel Ogbu, 32, of No. 12, Ganges St., Maitama, Abuja in a Wuse Zone 2 Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing a Nokia Asha 302 mobile phone.

The Prosecutor, Monday Akor, told the court that the matter was reported by Victoria Omale, of Panama St., Maitama, Abuja, to the Maitama police station on Sept.1.

Akor said that Ogbu, an iron bender, dishonestly entered Omale’s residence and stole her Nokia mobile phone valued at N15 500.

He said the offence contravened Section 287 of the Penal Code.

If convicted, the convict could be imprisoned for a maximum of five years or fined or be punished with both.

The accused person however pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The Magistrate, Mimi Katsina-Alu, granted bail to the accused in the sum of N5,000 with a surety in like sum.

Katsina-Alu said the surety must reside within the jurisdiction of the court and adjourned the case to Sept. 18 for further hearing.
