33 die in Kogi road crashes

05 September 2013, 07:36

Lokoja -  The Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) on Wednesday said 33 people died in 142 road accidents in different parts of Kogi in August.

The state Sector Commander, Olukunle Motajo, told newsmen in Lokoja that 166 people sustained injuries in the accidents while 30 others escaped unhurt.

He blamed the accidents on over speeding, dangerous driving, impatient and overloading, saying that the accidents were avoidable.
Motajo said that 1,391 motorists and cyclists were arrested for various traffic offences across the state during the month.

He said all the offenders paid fines to deter others and urged motorists to drive with care on Okene-Lokoja-Abuja road.

He advised motorists to be careful on the road and ensure that all the necessary machines on their vehicle were functioning well during the ‘ember’ months and raining season.
