4 die as building collapses in Jigawa

Sule-Tankarkar - Four children have died in a building which collapsed after a heavy down pour in Danzomo village of Sule-Tankarkar Local Government Area of Jigawa.

Malam Sabiu Danladi, a resident, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday that the house was built with mud.

Danladi said the incident occurred at about 8:00pm shortly after the rain that lasted for hours.

He said the children were in one of the rooms playing when the house collapsed.

Habib Basiru, another resident, said they tried to rescue them but the effort did not yield positive result.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the state, Abdul Jinjiri, confirmed the incident.

Jinjiri named the children as Abdullahi Abdu, 6, Bashir Abdullahi, 3, Maimuna Mansur, 4 and Kabiru Yasir, 6.

He said another child who sustained injury was taken to a hospital.

In the last two weeks, rainstorm had destroyed 200 houses in Malam-Madori Local Government Area of the state.
