42 Boko Haram insurgents killed in Borno

Borno - Troops have killed 42 terrorists and rescued 80 captives held ransom by the Boko Haram group at Gangere village in Kukawa Local Government Area of Borno State.

An unconfirmed number of the insurgents escaped with gunshot wounds.

Some 38 women and 42 children were rescued from the insurgents.

They have been taken to the military medical facility in Baga for checks where they were further assisted with food and clothing.

The breakthroughs have been reached under the clearance patrol Codenamed Operation Tiger Claw.

The patrol team also recovered 504 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, 162 rounds of 7.62mm (Special) ammunition, a car, 34 cans of petrol and 55 motorcycles.

Col. Sani Kukasheka Usman, Acting Director Army Public Relations, said the troops had continued to intensify vigilance and maintained high level of alertness.

“They are making concerted efforts to clear the remnants of the terrorists in their area of responsibilities,” he said.
