47 youths arrested over sagging pants, hairdos

01 August 2014, 09:53

Abuja - Kano State Hisba Board said on Thursday it arrested 47 youths over hair style called "swagger" and wearing sagging trousers or  "ass down" in Kano.

The Director-General of the board, Dr Abba Sufi, said this in an interview in Kano.

He said the board arrested the youths at the Zoological Garden during the Eid-el-Fitr celebrations, adding that the new barbing style and sliding of trousers negated Shari'a.

Sufi said the board would continue to track such youths engaging in such mode of  dressing and barbing style in the state.

"We sat them down and our barbers barbed them in the normal way. We will continue to arrest them because they are violating the Sharia’’, he said.

He said henceforth, anybody found wearing  ‘swagger barbing' or engaging in  ' ass down mode of dressing’ would be  prosecuted for  promoting immorality in the society.

On  beggars, Sufi said the board had repatriated those arrested to their respective local government areas and states of origin.

"Those from Kano state have been taken to their local government areas while non-indigenes have also been repatriated to their states of origin," he added.
