Katsina - The Katsina State Police Command said five persons were killed and seven others injured in a dispute between suspected cattle rustlers and vigilance group in Danmusa Local Government Area of the state.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the state, DSP Aminu Abubakar, stated this at a news briefing in Katsina on Wednesday.
He said the incident occurred on September 17 in Danmusa when a vigilance group engaged some suspected rustlers in the area.
Abubakar said the injured persons were receiving medical attention while police investigation was ongoing.
The PPRO also said the police had killed four suspected armed robbers during an exchange of fire, adding that eight others were arrested at different locations in the state from September 1 till date.
“One was arrested at Rugar Haruna village in Sabuwa area, one in Funtua, three in Ummadau village of Safana area and three in Malumfashi area for committing robbery attacks in these areas,” he said.
He also said that the command had recovered 120 cows and 70 sheep stolen by suspected rustlers in Tsaru village of Faskari Local Government Area.
He said one suspected rustler was arrested in Jibia Local Government Area with seven cows recovered from him.
The police spokesman said other exhibits recovered, apart from cows and sheep, were four locally made pistols, 16 rounds of live ammunition, one motorcycle, a cell phone, N61100, a necklace and a ring.
Abubakar said appealed to the people of the state to give the police useful information that could lead to the arrest of criminals in the state.
