5 persons killed in auto crash

03 February 2013, 08:27 -

Lokoja - The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has confirmed that five persons lost their lives in a ghastly motor accident that occurred on Lokoja-Abuja road on Saturday.

It also said that five others, who were seriously injured in the crash, were currently receiving treatment at the Ideal Hospital Koton Karfe.

The Kogi Sector Commander of the Corps, Mr Garba Mohammed, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lokoja that the victims were all adults, four men and a woman.

He said that they were among the 13 passengers in two commercial vehicles that had a head-on collision at a spot in Achabo village near Gegu at about 12 noon.

Mohammed said that the two vehicles were a Volkswagen Sharon with registration number Lagos AKD 910 XD and a green Volkswagen Joker Wagon with registration number Lagos AGL568 AQ.

According to him they were coming from the opposite direction when they had the crash.

He blamed the accident on wrong overtaking on the part of one of the drivers, saying that the accident could have been avoided.

He said the corpses of those who lost their lives had been deposited at the mortuary of the Federal Medical Centre, Lokoja.

The sector commander said that the wreckage of the two vehicles had been cleared to allow for free flow of vehicles on the ever busy road.
