Abuja - The National Drug and Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has announced that it arrested no fewer than 577 suspects from the Lagos and Murtala Muhammed Aiport commands in 2015, Punch has reported.

Aliyu Sule, NDLEA Lagos State Commander, along with Garba Ahmadu, Airport Commander, revealed that 438 drug suspects were nabbed from the Lagos command while 139 suspects were arrested from the airport command last year.

The two men also disclosed that 7,315 kilogrammes were recovered during the period mentioned. While breaking down the number, the men revealed that cannabis accounted for 7,313 kgs of the overall weight, while 413 grammes was heroin and 480 grammes Cannabis Sativa.

The statistics show a drop in the number of arrests compared to previous years. Sule has attributed the phenomenon to proactive measure put in place by the command in order to apprehend suspects more efficiently.

He appealed to the public to cooperate with the NDLEA, saying that it was the responsibility of all citizens to make Nigeria a safer state.
