6 persons die in auto crash

Bauchi - Six persons lost their lives, while 16 others sustained various degree of injuries in an auto crash on the Bauchi-Maiduguri road, the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) has said.

The accident occurred in the early hours of Saturday, when an 18-seater Nissan Urvan bus collided with a motorcycle, 15 km from Bauchi.

Mr Sunday Olatunji, the Bauchi State Commander of the commission, who confirmed the incident, said three females, two males and a child died on the spot.

He said that the 16 passengers who sustained injuries were taken to Tafawa Balewa Teaching Hospital, Bauchi.

Olatunji said that the bus was going to Azare when the accident occurred.

He said the motorcyclist was crossing the road when it collided with the bus.

He attributed the cause of the accident to reckless driving and warned motorists plying the high way to be very careful.

Personal effects of the victims still littered the spot when a correspondent of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) visited the accident scene on Sunday.
