08 November 2012, 16:03

Kaduna  - The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), on Thursday paraded eight persons suspected of vandalising oil pipelines in Kaduna.

Its Public Relation Officer, Mr Oguntunase Michael said at a press briefing in Kaduna that the suspects were arrested by soldiers while tampering with oil pipeline along Kaduna-Abuja express way on Wednesday.

He said they were arrested after a tip off, adding however that the leader of the gang had escaped.

``We spread our surveillance towards the area to see if we can nab them and we did so with the assistance of the Army.

``They were able to arrest them; their leader is at large but we will surely arrest him soon,’’ he said.

He listed Items recovered from the suspected vandals to include drilling machine, pipes, a generator, 10 drums containing diesel and four 25-litre kegs containing the same product.

Michael lamented the attitude of some Nigerians who consistently frustrate government efforts at bringing succour to people.

He said the suspects would be prosecuted as soon as investigations were completed.
