Jos - The Plateau Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) on Monday in Jos said it arrested 80 pipeline vandals between January and November.
The corps’ Commandant in the state, Vincent Bature, disclosed this to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
He said most of the vandals were arrested in Bassa Local Government Area (LGA) of the state and Lere LGA of Kaduna State.
Bature however said the rate of pipeline vandalism was declining in the state following sensitisation campaign in the affected areas.
"The rate of pipeline vandalism has reduced drastically in the state as the rate has dropped to 40 per cent as against the initial percentage.
"This is as a result of sensitisation campaign carried out in the affected areas and the command's resolve to beef up security around the pipeline installations.''
The commandant said 70 drums of petroleum products were recovered from the vandals during the period.
Bature warned those engaged in the act to desist as the command would not hesitate to arrest anyone found involved.
He urged traditional rulers in the areas to sensitise their people on the danger of such nefarious act.
