9 die in auto crash in Jigawa

15 March 2014, 08:02

Dutse - Nine persons died in auto crash involving a Toyota Hiace bus and a Sharon bus at Ganji-gyedi village in Ringim Local Government Area of Jigawa on Friday.

The state Commandant of the NSCDC, Muhammad Gidado, told the media in Dutse that the accident occurred at about 4.00pm.

The commandant said the accident occurred when the Sharon bus heading to Kano had a burst tyre and rammed into the Toyota Hiace bus coming from the opposite direction.

According to him, the two drivers lost control of the buses and hit some jerry cans filled with petrol by the road side and burst into flames.

Gidado said that six of the passengers were burnt beyond recognition, adding that three others died later in General Hospital in Ringim.

He said that seven others, in critical condition, were referred to Rashidi Shekoni Specialist Hospital in Dutse, the state capital.

According to him, the charred remains of the six were given mass burial, while the other three who died later in hospital were buried individually.
