APC criticises plans to thwart Amaechi screening

19 October 2015, 15:24

Abuja - The All Progressives Congress (APC) has further lambasted the rival People's Democratic Party (PDP) for allegedly frustrating plans to halt the screening of Rotimi Amaechi.

The screening of the former Rivers State Governor has overshadowed the process to vet President Muhammadu Buhari’s nominees for ministerial positions.

It was deferred last week but the Senate has resolved that Amaechi will be screened on Tuesday alongside other new nominees submitted by Buhari.

Senate Spokesman, Otunba Dino Melaye, said the report of the Ethics, Privileges and Petitions Committee would be ready this week.

APC said this indicated the failure of the plots by incumbent Rivers Governor NyesomWike to truncate and frustrate the ministerial position of Amaechi.

“Contrary to the expectations of Chief Nyesom Wike and his gang of miserable ingrates, their ferocious campaign to blackmail, disparage and portray Rt. Hon. Chibuike Amaechi as a very corrupt person and unfit to be appointed as a Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria failed to achieve the desired objective,” said APC ahead of the screening.

Wike’s People’s Democratic Party is probing Amaechi for alleged maladministration and corruption.
