Abia learners receive scholarships

24 October 2013, 16:17

Abuja - Abia State Governor, Theodore Orji, has awarded scholarships to 12 local youngsters.

This follows the conclusion of the Nigeria Pre-Centenary Inter Debate Championship conducted in Abuja recently.

Orji announced the scholarship during the Executive Committee Chambers at the Government House when the Chairman of the Abia State Universal Education Board (ASUBEB), Mike Onyebuchi, presented the pupils.

The Governor also gave cash rewards of N100 each to the pupils and N1 million to all the teachers who were part of the students' success.

Orji stated, “The children are a special gift of God to the State and expressed gratitude to God for endowing the State with such intelligent children who have left indelible marks on the sands of time.”

He noted that the outstanding children needed to be encouraged to enable them to be successful in life.

The premier also paid tribute to the parents of the youngsters.

“Their parents whose genes produced them and the teachers who tutored and mentored them to the paths of greatness deserve worthy commendations,”
Orji added.

Onyebuchi said the awards at the Nigeria Pre-Centenary Inter Debate Championship were a milestone in the region.
