Abia - The Abia State Government has expressed its readiness to partner with a United States based prominent Professor who is eager to expand his business to the state.
Dr Samuel Achilefu, the inventor of cancer goggles, is from Osaa Ukwu, Obingwa local government area, is a Professor of Radiology, Biochemical Engineering and Surgery, Washington University, St Louis Missouri, in the United States.
Governor Okezie Ikpeazu, Abia is ready to afford Dr Achilefu the opportunity he may need to establish in the State, maintaining that the State will be willing to give him a place to establish his Laboratory or for the mass production of his machines.
"Abia is proud of his achievements as he has done the State proud, the State will leverage on his global image as an inventor,” said the governor.
Ikpeazu stated that Abia was endowed, noting radiologists were few.
“We will not want the opportunity of Dr Achilefu accomplishments to be lost on the state. We appeal to him to bring something home.”
He further assured him of adequate security and regular power supply.
“The government needs people like him to drive the health initiative,” said Ikpeazu.
He meanwhile congratulated the medicine expert for producing a machine to determine and differentiate between cancer cells.
Cancer goggles, as the machine is known, would help a surgical team see malignant tumor cells during an operation.
Although the goggles are still in the development stage, many believe this new technology, which is supported by grants from both the National Cancer Institute and the National Institute of Biomedical Imaging and Bioengineering, will be a boon for surgeons and patients alike.
