Abuja - Former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, has hailed the role played by All Progressives Congress National Chairman, John Oyegun, for his role in the creation of history by the former opposition.
Abubakar in a tribute to the APC leader on the occasion of his 76th birthday anniversary, noting Oyegun demonstrated admirable leadership elegance and level-headedness that propelled the former opposition to victory during the 2015 general election.
It was the first time an opposition party wrestled power since the advent of democracy in the country.
“The story of opposition on merger in Nigeria to oust People’s Democratic Party from power would be incomplete without recognizing Oyegun’s effective leadership,” said Abubakar.
He explained that holding the opposition partners together despite efforts by the former ruling party was no mean achievement.

“I will always be proud of our National Chairman who, despite all odds, led a formidable struggle to dislodge the PDP from power after 16 years of political dominance. This is an admirable record for which Oyegun deserves our respect. May God continue to grant him more wisdom, good health and long life in the service of Nigerians,” Abubakar said.
Born in Warri, Delta State, Oyegun is a former Edo State Governor.
